Grime magazine analysis

The masthead: The name of the magazine 'RWD' is large and bold on the page; the bright red color stands out to the person looking at the magazine. Even though its layered and covered by the picture, which is the main focus of this music magazine. The reader would notice the name as its a recognizable British Hip-hop grime logo.

Image:
On the cover, pictured is grime artist Skepta. The image is a mid shot of him against a dark background allowing him to stand out and become the focus of the magazine. It also allows him to seem mysterious and dark which also corresponds to the genre that he is promoting which is Grime, this type of music is more underground and not as big as the music on TV now days but the image shows red light shining down on him which represents the main stream side of music which he also does. Therefore shows that he's breaking down the barrier between grime and mainstream. Skepta is also seen as one of the big shots of grime so he is one of the best people to represent it, everyone who listens to grime is likely to recognize him, so by him being on the front cover it makes it more genre specific. He is also wearing a large chain which is a often worn by grime artist which could symbolize his riches, it also shows that he maintains his superstar image even whilst doing grime music.
From the image we pick up indicators that Skepta is up to trouble. Firstly, his wearing a hat which is associated with trouble as it could be adjusted to cover his face. Secondly, his hands seem to be in his pocket suggesting that he's relaxed  and his facial expression is serious with no interest or emotion. All these factors are meant to add to Skepta's bad--boy persona of getting in trouble.

Feature headline:  'Skepta' is written in gradient above the strap line in white font, allowing his name to stand out as his name is recognizable. Therefore attracts customers. The fact that the writing is bold shows his importance in the magazine as its something that they need the audience to see. This font is smaller than the masthead as the main focus is 'RWD'. The feature headline links to the main image and helps bring the focus back to Skepta's face.

Cover lines:
The cover line is placed on the left side of the magazine in a column lay out, it includes a list of other known celebrity's which could possibly attract a wider range of customers. It also allows the customers to gain an insight of what is found in the magazines and what the articles are going to be about.

Color Pallet:
The color pallet for this cover is red, white, navy and black. These colors are regarded as the most often used colors for this brand magazine.
