Planning Ideas

Identifying My Genre And Target Audience:
Genre:My chosen genre for my music magazine will be Grime.
Definition:a form of dance music influenced by UK garage, characterized by machine-like sounds.

Audience: Grime music is violent and the lyrics usually connect to gang culture and lifestyles allowing it to be more likable by males between 15-23. The niche market is the British population although it is evident that the British Grime can reach the America.

Masthead:

For the name of my magazine, I decided to use a graffiti theme(street art) as its associated with grime(street music).
Names that I've thought of:
Flow
Street Heat
Grime Times
All the ideas i had thought of were words which were somehow associated with my genre and all linked to my theme. Flow is the rhythms and rhymes that each grime artist needs. Street Heat is a creative & youth inspired online talent and entertainment channel showcasing unsigned and emerging talent, it is a recognizable and known name, therefore would easily attract my target audience. Whilst grime time was a way of breaking the barrier between underground and the real world as the word 'Grime' is associated with gang culture and street/hood music whereas 'times' is a British daily national newspaper based in London, it has been an integral and important part of the political structure of Great Britain- therefore putting the 2 words within the same title could suggest to people that grime is about to become just as important as the newspaper.

I then chose to use FLOW as it is considered to be key to grime music.
Front Cover Story:

My front cover story will be about various different ' grime artists' as having a recognizable artist would allow me to catch my audiences attention.

Most grime music magazines contents include exclusive interviews, latest music/hits, exclusive stories and sometimes also include fashion and tips.
Main Image:
To begin with i had planned to have a mid shot of a male model on the cover of my magazine. I wanted him to have his arms crossed and a "tough"/ aggressive face expression suggesting antisocial behavior allowing the audience to feel intimidated and display attitude as this would represent the grime music well
However, having though about my ideas i decided to make some changes as i didn't want my magazine to look basic/typical.
Therefore, i decided that my main image will be both a male and female looking directly at the camera as female grime artist are not recognized enough the grime industry and i wanted there to be a feel of competition between the two genders. I want the models to still have a "tough" face expression but also have a smirk as most grime artist are confident as they know they are good at what they do and i want this to be visible on my magazine.

Pose examples
A mid shot of Stormzy with his hands behind his back suggesting he is hiding something or is up to something adding a sense on mystery. The background is white and so is his t-shirt making the photo simple but also contrasts his dark skin tone allowing him to stand out. His head is looking down but his eyes are looking directly at the audience making them feel intimidated and suggests to the audience that he is always watching.
A mid shot of a male model (known grime artist -stormzy) he has an emotionless face showing that he has no worries and the one that stands out without any efforts. His got one hand in his pocket showing he is antisocial whereas his other hand in fixing his jackets collar suggesting he cares about his appearance.

The model has a serious and intimidating face expression, side view but still looking directly at the camera suggesting he has a dark side to him which you can not see adding a sense on mystery.
His wearing typical grime clothing including a loose hoodie and a hat.

Mise-en-scene:
Early grime was never about urban excess, but about being honest about the daily struggle therefore my models wont have big chains, grillz or expensive clothing instead they will look simple but still fresh. My models are likely to wear known local brands such as Nike, Adidas or North Face.
They will wear either tracksuits, hoodies or bomber jacket which are recognizable and promote Grime fashion.
The location would be in the classroom, against a white screen and there will be studio lighting, which will enhance the model's features, which i might then edit a block of flat onto as my background to show that they have power over the flats and own it, but also suggest that they are ready for anything.
Flats are also known to be the home to grime artist and is where they're struggle began.

FontsI decided that i would use a variety of fonts in order to allow my magazine to have additional interest including bold Ariel fonts, bubble writing and graffiti writing but also insuring that the page is not overloaded with fonts as this would make my magazine look unorganized and unrealistic.
Also, I would use my brightest and bold color from my chosen pallet (red/white) for my headlines in order to bring attention to them.
  Color Scheme:
My color scheme will consist of black, white, grey and red. This is because they are the most common colors used on known grime magazines such as rwd. These colors will also allow my magazine to have a distinguish professional look that is also aesthetically pleasing for my audience.
